March 4, 2010: Local Author in International Children’s Author AwardA renowned teacher and author Mdoe Janet Nkabirwa Nsibirwa is one of the nominees for the 2010 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA). Mrs. Mdoe has a love for reading and writing and has published books both jointly and solely. The books she has written and published are: Engero Enyimpi, and Obulamu bwa Martin Luther mubimpimpi. She jointly published Ekitabo ekisooka n’ekyokubiri under the Uganda Languages Series.
She has also published a number of children’s titles including: Farm Animals, Moses and His Friends, Nsangi and the beast, My Home, Peter, Jane and Dora, The Fight Between Fire and Water, We play and learn 1 &2, What are they Doing 1&2?, Who am I and What am I?, Beautiful Gwolyowa, Lulendera and the Beast of Bukasa, Lule the Lazy Boy, Adam and Mr. Leopard, Mr. Grey and Mr. Bald, Tusome Oluganda, Aw’olwatuuka, Okusoma nga Kuwoma.
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award rewards the best in contemporary children's and young adult literature from all over the world. It is arguably the biggest international children’s and young adult award which is presented every year to authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and those active in reading promotion work. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is administered by the Swedish Arts Council.
The 2010 ALMA attracted 167 candidates from 61 countries world wide. The announcement of the winner or winners will be made on March 24, 2010 and is to be broadcast to the International Bologna Children's Book Fair. « Back to News Briefs |
